Change your mind

“We’ve probably all had moments that have shown us that happiness has virtually nothing to do with the external circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the state of our minds and hearts. We can be drinking margaritas on a Caribbean beach, totally miserable; we can be late for work and stuck in freezing sleet in a traffic jam on the George Washington Bridge, overflowing with bliss.

Lately, scientists have shown interest in just these kinds of phenomena, and they have confirmed what yogis have known for centuries: The mind can be systematically trained to generate joyful states. In a New York Times article published early last year, Daniel Goleman reported that people who were taught mindfulness meditation and did it regularly became dramatically happier, more energized, and less anxious than subjects in a control group—a change that was reflected in distinctive patterns of brain activity that were detected through MRIs and EEGs. Each of us seems to have what Goleman calls an emotional “set point”—a distinctive pattern of brain activity (and a corresponding mood) that we chronically tend toward and that is not affected much by external circumstances. Fortunately, science now confirms, regular contemplative practice can shift this emotional set point. ”  - Anne Cushman

“Joy”

a boundless capacity to savor life’s blessings, regardless of whether they’re showered on us or on other people.

First time in San fran!

First time in San fran!

Being a woman is a daily joy. The salts we can exfoliate with. The butters and oils we can hydrate with. Our curls, our curves, our hangnails, our hope. Breathe deeply, sisters, our time to be adored is happening.

While changing in the ladies lounge pre-massage, I saw a woman with stomach rolls and I couldn’t take my eyes off her; she was a breath of fresh air in Hollywood. Her body showed enjoyments and challenges. I’m entering an age where the perfect body is boring to look at. Show me something unique.

The mind is like a parachute, it only functions when open

This poem makes me smile:

“I love you.
I love that you smoothly and fastly drove up into my life, inviting me into your cute little car with your big handsome shoulders.
I love that you showed me biking and that you know so much about your environment.
I love that you play the bass.
I love more that you will play the stand up base.
I love your feet and your wart and your soft or strong voice, depending on the moment.
I love that you told me to keep my chin up and that you cherish my pumpkin patch.
I love your vision.
I love your smell.
I love your standards of freshness and justice.
I love that you bring me three chicken legs at 10 oclock at night and move my furniture.
I love you.”

Can’t sleep because brain wants to read about cosmography and classical mechanics. Thank you, David Fincher and Rooney Mara, this always happens after I see a good movie.

You can avoid physics for 16 years of school but live the human condition and physics’ll learn you.
